Understanding Restaurant Management Issues

Back To School Pizza Party – 4 Themes To Celebrate The New School Year

The arrival of the new school year can come with a lot of anxiety and frustration for children. As summer vacation winds down, you can help celebrate the start of a new school year by throwing a fun pizza party. Not only can children enjoy some great pizzas, but they can kick start the classroom learning with each slice. As you order from a local pizza restaurant, consider incorporating the following three themes. Each one helps teach some core school lessons and can be a great way to enjoy a family meal.

Pizzas & Geometry

Teach your children a little bit about shapes and sizes with pizza and geometry. For example, you can order one pizza cut into rectangle slices and another pizza cut into triangle slices. The children can measure slices to compare sizes and see what ones are different. This can help teach them about area perimeters, and understand how much pizza they are actually consuming.

Pizza Geography

Give your children some lessons about the United States by ordering specialty pizzas based off different regions. For example, you can order a deep dish pizza and give your children some facts about Chicago. You could also order a thin New York style pizza and give your children some trivia questions about the city of New York. It's a fun way to teach and eat at the same time. Along with giving facts, you can use the pizza themes to create trivia games with multiple children playing.

Pizza Pi's

As your children grows and learns in math class, one of important concepts they will learn about is Pi. Learning about Pi while eating pizza works well because of the name pun and the shape. When ordering pizzas, consider ordering each child their own personal pan pizza and call it a "pizza pi". When the pizza arrives, a child can calculate the area of it by multiplying Pi times the squared measurement of the radius. This is a basic math concept ideal for measuring circles and learning how to calculate the shape sizes.

Pizza Senses

Some restaurants allow you to order pizza toppings underneath the cheese. If this option is available, then you can play a fun learning game that explores the different senses of your children. Order a variety of pizzas with each one featuring a different combination of slices. Once the pizza arrives, you can cut a slice down into small strips. After giving each child a strip, they must smell and taste the pizza without looking at it. Using these senses, the child must correctly guess what type of pizza they are eating. This is a fun game for young children to play and can also encourage them to try different toppings they may not normally eat.

Plan out the different pizza orders with your children to see what ones they are most interested in ordering.
