Understanding Restaurant Management Issues

5 Traditional Mexicans Breakfast Choices

Many people love Mexican food, but they tend to think of the lunch and dinner items such as tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, and not give much consideration to breakfast meals. If you love Mexican style food, then you should head out some weekend and have breakfast at a local Mexican restaurant that serves breakfast. Here are some really delicious and traditional breakfast items to look for.

Chilaquiles

This dish is made using fried tortilla chips, which are simmered in a mole sauce. Shredded chicken is sometimes added to the mole sauce. When the chips have softened up, the dish is removed from the heat. Sour cream, refried beans and eggs are served with the dish. It is then garnished with avocado slices and raw onions. You might also find queso fresco crumbled atop the dish, depending on the restaurant.

Champurrado

If you're looking for something a bit lighter, then this is a perfect choice. A champurrado is a warm drink made with masa, sugar, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. Masa is a type of dried corn meal. It is common to use it in making drinks in Mexican culture. These drinks have a thick consistency, similar to a milkshake. They are often served at breakfast with a churro. The champurrado is always served warm, so if you like fancy flavored coffee concoctions, you should try this out.

Churro

Churros are unleavened pastries that are fried in oil. They resemble donuts, but are elongated and thin. When they are finished frying, they are dusted with cinnamon and sugar. If you're getting champurrado, then you should also get a churro.

Huevos Rancheros

This is a dish that has gained popularity outside of Mexico, so you might have encountered it before. It is called "Rancher's Eggs" because it is a popular meal on ranches and haciendas among the working people who have to do manual labor throughout the day. It provides a lot of protein and nourishment for a long work day.

The meal consists of corn tortillas with fried eggs on top. A tomato-based chili sauce is used to cover the eggs. Refried beans and spiced rice are served alongside it. The tortillas are traditionally made of corn, though some northern Tex-Mex styles might use a flour tortilla. They tortillas are also traditionally kept crisp, as opposed to those in chilaquiles, where they are softened up in mole.

Gorditas Zacatecanas

These are made with masa and filled with mashed beans. They are similar to filled pancakes. The masa dough is flavored with cumin and spices. It is then filled with the bean mixture, or sometimes a chicken mixture. The edged are then folded over and the gordita is fried on a comal (a large flat type of frying pan). Steam forms inside the gordita, creating a puffy pocket.

They are served when the exterior is crisp. Because they are self-contained and don't require a plate, they are extremely popular as street food. However, you will often see them in a restaurant where they will be garnished with sour cream or avocado. If you're hungry for Mexican food now, visit a restaurant like El Chico Cafe.
