Understanding Restaurant Management Issues

What Are The Best Ways To Reheat Leftover Pizza Delivery?

You may have noticed that microwaving leftovers from an earlier pizza delivery can leave your pizza slices rubbery, floppy and unevenly heated. Fortunately there are many ways to reheat pizza that don't involve use of a microwave. The following reheating methods will ensure good flavor and non-rubbery texture. Best of all, most of these methods are quick, so you won't have to wait very long for perfectly reheated, tasty slices of leftover pizza.

The Skillet Method

Put a skillet on the stove and turn the heat on low. Lay the slice of pizza in the bottom of the skillet, without oil or any lubrication for the surface of the skillet. Finally, place a lid over the skillet. This lid is key to heating the cheese on the top of the pizza slice. It's important to keep the heat on the skillet at very low temperature to prevent the pizza from burning. If the bottom of the pizza begins to scorch, move the slice over to the edge of the skillet away from the flames in the center. The pizza is done when the cheese in the center of the slice feels hot and melted. This method works best for thin crust pizza.

Oven Method

Turn on your oven or toaster oven to 350 degrees. The toaster oven is ideal for this method because it takes far less time to preheat. When the oven is preheated, lay the slice of pizza directly on the wire rack. If you're worried about melting cheese staining the bottom of your oven, lay a cookie sheet or a piece of tin foil on the rack below the slice of pizza, but don't put the slice of pizza directly on the cookie sheet, as this will cause the crust to become mushy. If you have a baking stone, you can lay the slice of pizza directly on the stone. Cook the pizza for about 5 minutes, and remove the pizza when the cheese is melted.

Grilling Method

If you happen to be grilling outdoors, this is an excellent method that you can use to reheat your pizza. Simply fire up your grill, then lay the pizza directly on the cast iron racks. Keep the pizza away from direct flame and shut the lid. The exact amount of time that your pizza needs in order to reheat will vary, depending on the temperature of your grill. Check the underside of the slice for scorch marks and watch the cheese for evidence that it's melted. Remove the pizza when the cheese is hot and starting to drip off the edge of the pizza slice.
