Understanding Restaurant Management Issues

Four Foods Often Served In Bar And Grill Restaurants That Will Get Your Attention

When you think of bar and grill restaurants, you probably envision casual eateries with impressive assortments of mixed drinks, beer and wine. Some are on the rowdy side, such as sports bars featuring prominent big screen TVs that encourage rooting for the home team. The atmosphere might lure you inside, but good "pub grub" is what makes you a regular customer. Below are four treats that command attention at any table

Hot Wings

Mention hot wings to some folks and you'll have a stampede to the bar. Ideally, the wings should be meaty enough for a few bites and deep-fried so they're crispy and golden. The wings are typically slathered in sauce that has a kick. Your heat tolerance level determines whether your sauce is flavored with habanera peppers or milder spices like cayenne and chili powder. Hot wings are often served with celery sticks and a mild dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, to cool things off between bites. Ice cold beer also works.

Nachos

True nachos are much more than tortilla chips with a little bit of cheese sauce poured over the top. The best nachos also include toppings such as spiced beef or chicken, onions, fresh tomatoes, beans and mounds of melted, grated cheese. Add guacamole and sour cream and you have a slightly messy finger-food that is a meal in its own right. Settle the nachos in the middle of the table and dig in. Feeling brave? Add some jalapenos or habaneras for a spicy kick.

Sliders

Sliders are mini-burgers that taste every bit as good as their larger cousins. They were invented by the White Castle hamburger chain and they own the copyright on the "slyder" spelling.  While the original "slyder" usually came with meat, cheese, onions and pickles, many bar and grill restaurants serve their "sliders" with many of the same options found on a regular size burger. Imagine a plate of these mini-burgers with additions such as bacon, designer cheeses, lettuce and tomatoes. A pile of fries on the side can't hurt.

Jalapeno Poppers

Take a jalapeno pepper, stuff it with cream cheese, dip it in a batter and then deep fry it to a golden brown. Serve with a dip that, like the cream cheese, slightly tames the bite of the pepper.  A good bar and grill makes them fresh so the crust doesn't turn soggy. Set a plate of these in the middle of the table and watch the poppers disappear, along with the pints of beer washing them down. Contact a local bar and grill, like Buzzard Billy's, to find out what is one the menu.
